Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra was elected in 2010 to serve the people of these incredible neighbourhoods at City Hall. Gian-Carlo's mission is to ensure that neighbourhoods are the driving force behind change, and that the citizen is truly a decision-maker in the future of our city.

Biography
Gian-Carlo Carra was elected to serve his first term as Alderman for Ward 9 in October 2010. Gian-Carlo was raised in both Calgary and New York City. This upbringing provided him with a unique perspective on living in large urban cities and a special appreciation for Calgary's people, neighbourhoods and natural landscape.
An award-winning urban design professional, Gian-Carlo is committed to helping shape a more sustainable future for Calgary. He brings to Calgary City Council a passion for building walkable, safe, and fiscally responsible communities designed to contain a diverse range of lifestyles and opportunities.
In his first term in office, Gian-Carlo brings his expertise and desire to create a great city to the following committees:

- Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA)
- Inter-Municipal Committee – Foothills
- Land and Asset Strategy Committee

Prior to becoming Ward 9 Alderman, Gian-Carlo operated a Calgary-based urban design consulting business, and was an active public speaker, community activist and academic researcher. He earned his BA in history (1996) and later his Masters in Environmental Design/Urban Design (2005), both at the University of Calgary.
A believer in an active, healthy lifestyle, Gian-Carlo has been a volleyball coach and a leader in the Ultimate Frisbee scene, representing Calgary in both national and international competitions.
