Civic Census Takers will be going door to door starting April 1, 2012

Your participation in the census is essential and only takes a couple of minutes.

Every year, the City conducts a census to get an official count of the population and dwelling units.  Census information you provide is confidential – census results are reported on a community, ward or city wide basis so that no individual or dwelling is identifiable.

Census Takers will be collecting basic household information including:

  • the total number of residents,
  • if the dwelling is owned,
  • school support and
  • the number of pre-school children by year of birth.

All Census Takers wear photo identification issued by the City of Calgary.

If residents are not home when a Census Taker visits, the Census Taker will leave a notice of municipal census call.  Residents are asked to call the Census Taker at the number provided on the notice of call to complete their Census.

If residents are unable to reach their Census Taker, they can contact the Census office at 403-476-4100 (option 3).

Census data is used to determine per capita grants from the Province, to provide statistical information for the planning of a variety of City services, to forecast school enrolments, and to determine new school requirements.

All information collected by the civic census is protected by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
