The City of Calgary, Corporate Records, Archives has over 5500 meters of records in its holdings in the form of civic and private records which document the structure, functions, activities, and history of The City. These records include textual records, photographs and other graphic records, maps, plans, architectural drawings, multiple media, sound recordings and objects.
- We are the official repository for the historical records of The Corporation of The City of Calgary. These holdings document decisions and policies of City Council, civic business units and agencies, as well as civic functions, significant events and programs. Documents include Council minutes, bylaws, contracts, agreements, assessment records, reports, studies, briefs, voters lists, and municipal handbooks.
- We hold the records of the Town of Calgary, the predecessor to The City of Calgary, as well as records of annexed municipalities, the Village of Crescent Heights, the Town of Bowness, the Town of Forest Lawn, and the Town of Montgomery.
- We hold the records of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics' Organizing Committee (OCO'88), being the first host city to have an official Olympic Archive. These records consist of agreements, correspondence, photographs, blueprints, posters, pamphlets, reports, artifacts, audio tapes, and the original broadcast videotapes.
- Records from private donors are also acquired when there is a close affiliation with The City of Calgary.
