Filing an Appeal with the City Appeal Board

Before filing an appeal, individuals are encouraged to obtain information about the development by talking with neighbours and the Development Authority. An official appeal form must be submitted, which is available at the SDAB office or at the link below.

Filing an appeal online is easy with the new CITYonline. Please view this webinar to familiarize yourself with the new process. With credit card in hand, follow this link to proceed with filing an SDAB appeal online.

An appeal must be filed in accordance with the Municipal Government Act and contain the following information:
  • The municipal address of the property affected by the appeal.
  • If applicable, the land proposed to be subdivided and the legal description.
  • The name of the person filing the appeal.
  • The mailing address for which documents are to be sent.
  • Contact telephone numbers.
  • Specific reasons for the appeal.
  • $100 filing fee. *
  • *The filing fee is refundable if an appeal is withdrawn prior to the commencement of the hearing, or at the discretion of the Board if the hearing has commenced.

The $100 fee is required for all appeals to the SDAB. The $100 fee must accompany each Notice of Appeal form and must be submitted on or before the final date for appeal, as prescribed in the Municipal Government Act. A separate fee is required for each appeal type.

Online appeal: For electronic submission of the appeal, follow the "Appeal Online" link (at the top of this page) on the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Web site. Complete the electronic appeal form as directed and submit payment of the fee via Visa or MasterCard.

Regardless of the method of submission, the appeal must be received on or before the final date of appeal. In accordance with the SDAB Bylaw Number 25P95, an appeal is deemed not to have been filed and will not be scheduled for a hearing before the Board, unless the specified fee accompanies the completed Notice of Appeal form.
