Bylaw Education & Compliance creates and maintains community standards in Calgary to promote healthy and safe communities and help you live in harmony with your neighbours. We enforce municipal bylaws, provincial statutes and provide bylaw education that encourages compliance.

Peace officers actively enforce bylaws and seek to create resolutions between citizens, creating safe communities. We strive for timely resolutions when you encounter issues or concerns with neighbours, communities and weather events.

What we heard

You’ve said that we should invest more or the same amount, in bylaw services. A majority of Calgarians say bylaw services such as noise complaints, snow removal, fire pits and garden weeds are important to them and are satisfied with the job we’re doing in providing those services.

Council direction

Council is working to develop effective strategies to engage citizens in awareness and compliance of the new Cannabis Consumption Bylaw. Amendments to the Streets Bylaw will increase the fines and enforcement for not clearing sidewalks of snow, to support safer neighbourhoods. Implementing the Hybrid Officer program and OneCity Coordinated Enforcement System will create efficiencies between service lines and improve Bylaw’s response to you.
