Leslie Shikaze

Title: Acting Chief Human Resources Officer

Areas of focus: Leslie’s focus is on delivering human resource management strategies, programs and services that strengthen workplace culture and create conditions that allow staff to deliver the best possible services for citizens.

Career history: Leslie began her HR career nearly 40 years ago in a contract position at The City. She then moved into the private sector working in the Oil and Gas industry and Retail before returning to her roots at The City, in 2006. Leslie worked in the role of Manager of Business Advisory Services prior to leading a review of the Corporate Code of Conduct. She then helped launch the Corporate Workforce Planning Project and most recently lead a project team reviewing The City’s health system.

Leadership philosophy: Leslie sees leadership as a life journey. She wants to be a leader who is genuine and humble; always appreciative of the wonderful staff who work in The City’s Human Resources area. She wants to enable City staff to do what they do best - serve our customers well. As a leader, Leslie strives to be consistent in her actions with behaviors she expects to see in others. She likes to listen and be curious about the ideas and insights employees have about how The City can best serve our customers. Leslie tries to be present and available. She aims to provide sound direction that aligns with Council priorities and instills confidence in staff and customers alike. Leslie aspires to be courageous in all she does.
