Sue Gray

Title: Director/City Clerk

Areas of focus: The City Clerk's Office provides leadership in delivering open, accessible, and impartial government to Calgarians, Council, and The Corporation in accordance with legislation. Through expertise and innovation City Clerk’s provides a range of programs and services that contribute to ensuring Calgary is a well-run City.

Career history: Sue is a City Hall veteran and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role as City Clerk. Sue has been with The City of Calgary for 30 years, most of that time in the City Clerk's Office where she served in increasingly responsible positions until she assumed the position of Assistant City Clerk 2007 and City Clerk in 2012. Besides a graduate of Poole Technical College in Dorset, England, Sue is also a certified Municipal Clerk, which is an internationally recognized designation, and has earned her certificate in Local Government from the University of Alberta. Raised in England, Sue has made the Calgary area home since 1979.

Leadership philosophy: Sue believes that teamwork, clear roles of responsibilities, reward and recognition of staff contributions together with succession planning creates great and equal opportunities for staff within the City Clerk’s Office to be their best and deliver open, accessible and impartial government for Calgarians, Council and the corporation, through expertise and innovation and in accordance with legislation.
