Celebrate International PARK(ing) Day

We invite you to join us on September 21, 2018 for Calgary’s third annual PARK(ing) Day.

What is PARK(ing) Day?

PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and designers collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces - temporary public spaces. The project aims to encourage critical thought and to spark our imaginations about how public spaces can be used.

Taking place Downtown along Centre Street S.W. from noon to 6 p.m., the event involves the temporary closure of several parking spots, all of which will be remodeled into interactive exhibits that you can explore at your leisure.

We encourage everyone to visit these temporarily reinvented spaces and see the variety of innovative ways that Calgary’s urban spaces are used.

Location

Downtown Core, Centre Street S.W.

How can I transform a parking stall?

We invite you to transform an everyday parking stall into an experimental design and showcase the ways you think urban public space could be used.

Who can participate?

Anyone can submit an application to participate in PARK(ing) Day by the deadline of August 24, 2018. Space is limited though.

What are the park(ing) stall design considerations?

  • Allotted space is 2.4 metres by 6 metres
  • Must be temporary
  • Installations should be sturdy and safe, while not interfering with traffic
  • Signage is limited to two posters, no larger than 11 by 17 inches, that serve the sole purpose of acknowledging the creators, funders and organizers of the PARK(ing) Day installation
