Sustainability is about making our community a better place for current and future generations. In 2004 City Council approved the Brundtland definition of sustainability: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
This translates into striving for community well-being, a sustainable environment, a prosperous economy and smart growth and mobility choices. This is achieved by having a balanced financial capacity and creating a sustainable corporation that will drive toward this vision and provide the services Calgarians need today and in the future.
In plain language, it is about ‘building a great city for everyone, forever'.
