Bylaw 3M2012 set the business tax rate for 2012
The 2012 business tax rate is 0.0809. The change in the business tax rate between 2011 (0.0787) and 2012 (0.0809) is due to the change in the total assessment of businesses in Calgary.
Business tax rate calculation
The business tax rate is set by City Council. Council annually reviews The City's operating and capital budget required to provide City services to the community and determines what portion of the needed revenue will come from business tax.
The tax rate is calculated as follows:
required revenue ÷ total business assessment = business tax rate
Individual business taxes are calculated as follows:
assessed value of business premises x business tax rate = business tax levy
