Fleet Services manages and maintains vehicles and equipment that keeps The City of Calgary moving, and administers many functions including:

Maintenance

Fleet Maintenance provides major repairs, overhauls and preventative maintenance for light and heavy trucks and equipment including oil changes, lube services and tire repairs. Fleet’s seven locations, including its six satellite shops working up to seven days a week, ensures that the City’s fleet has a flexible and responsive service.

Auto Body Shop

The Auto Body Shop is equipped to handle all auto body repair requirements from cars to medium and heavy duty trucks and all types of equipment. The Body Shop is a full support collision and paint repair facility for all City of Calgary departments.

The City of Calgary’s Fleet Services Fabrication & Welding Shop provides a variety of fabrication, welding and machine shop services to support City of Calgary business units. The shop plays an important part in repairing and maintaining City assets like Water Services; Waste Water Treatment plants; Roads asphalt plant and crusher site, bridge railings, Calgary Transit LRT components, Enmax and other components of municipal infrastructure. Certified shop personnel ensure that machining, welding and fabrication is performed to the highest standards adding value and minimizing risk for each customer and the corporation as a whole.

The Fabrication & Welding Team recently participated in the Fire Hydrant Water Fountain Project by helping refine the design and complete the fabrication on the water fountain prototypes.  

Driver operator training & safety

The City of Calgary provides driver training for approximately 4,500 certified operators who drive City fleet vehicles or operate equipment. The operator training includes providing courses for such areas as transporting dangerous goods, professional driver improvement, and how to operate equipment safely and effectively. In addition, the City also ensures that drivers and operators of City fleet meet the requirements of provincial and federal driver and safety legislation.

Did you know that Fleet Services:

  • Attends to approximately 45,000 work orders annually.
  • Manages City-owned vehicle and equipment replacement for approximately 3,000 units.
  • Has a Green Fleet
  • Manages fleet registration, licensing and insurance.
  • Provides engineering services for the design, alteration and repairs of equipment. 
  • Manages disposal of City-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Co-ordinates return of external rental vehicles and equipment.
