Changes for the better
On July 1st, benefit carriers for the following Municipal Employees Benefit Association of Calgary (MEBAC) benefits will change:
- Health and dental benefits will move to Green Shield Canada (GSC) from Alberta Blue Cross.
- Optional group life insurance will move to Great West Life from Sun Life.
- Enhanced basic group life insurance (April update): We are currently evaluating the transfer of Enhanced Basic Group Life Insurance into the Optional Life Insurance plan. We will notify affected employees of the details before July 1.
Over the past year, MEBAC and The City of Calgary jointly went through a competitive bid process for the insurance providers of the MEBAC benefit plans. The carriers that could best meet our needs were chosen.
Information packages will be sent to your home address in June.
Additional FAQs were added in the Health and Dental sections on March 26th.
Green Shield Canada will be doing a travelling road show to various City sites from June 11th - 22nd.
