The City of Calgary hires approximately 400 new seasonal employees per year, in addition to those that qualify as a rehire.  Employees work in various business units such as Parks, Recreation, Roads, Water Services, Water Resources, Waste & Recycling, Calgro, Traffic Operations and The Calgary Zoo.

The types of jobs we hire for include:

  • gardeners
  • greenskeepers
  • labourers
  • outside custodial workers
  • plant operators
  • truck drivers

Becoming a seasonal employee…

  • Job postings for seasonal positions are posted throughout the year and can be viewed online.
  • The majority of our seasonal job postings are posted the last Friday in January.
    • Applications are only accepted on jobs that are posted.
    • The competition number of the job you are applying for MUST be written on your application form.
    • A separate application or resume is required for each competition applied for.
  • We encourage you to apply online, although you may also drop off your application form in person at the following two locations:

Utilize your skills, knowledge and experience working for The City

The City of Calgary has many different seasonal employment opportunities available and each position requires different skills.

The following are just some examples of the skills we are looking for when going through the application forms received:

  • valid class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
  • valid class 3 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
  • valid air brakes endorsement
  • valid first aid certificate (or higher)
  • previous experience operating vehicles and/or other equipment
  • previous experience in a manual labouring position
  • experience reading plans and/or taking precise measurements
  • experience in the use of heavy manual labour using hand or power tools (e.g. picks, shovels, heavy bars, jackhammers, etc.)

Seasonal work …

  • can be physically demanding
  • requires work to be carried out regardless of inclement weather

Applicants may be …

  • tested on their related skills
  • required to complete a police information check
