Aerial Photos Instructions

The PropertyView or NeighbourhoodView Report provides three to five photos taken by a low-flying aircraft for a specific Calgary property.

After submitting a valid search key, the PropertyView or NeighbourhoodView report window will open. You will see three to five small photos (thumbnails) for the property.

  1. Click on any of the individual thumbnails, or on the words: Top, North Side, South Side, East Side, West Side. View the larger image in the new window that opens.
  2. Click on the words: Top, North Side, South Side, East Side, or West Side, within this new window to navigate to the different views. Alternatively, you may use your browser's Back and Forward buttons/keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Save or Print the images as desired.

Note: Do not close this window without saving and/or printing the images. Once closed, you will need to re-enter the search to view the images again and you will be charged for a second search.

Viewing Tips

Clicking on an image will open a large image in a new window. To get the full benefit of this larger image, you may zoom in on the image. If you save the images (see below) you can use many desktop applications that are capable of viewing JPG images to do this.

The default viewer is usually Windows Fax/Picture Viewer. After saving an image and viewing it with Windows fax/Picture Viewer, you will be able to zoom in and out for more detail.

Internet Explorer (IE 7) users can benefit from additional browser functionality without the need for an additional viewing application by using the scroll wheel on most mice. Hold down the CNTR key and turn the scroll wheel to zoom in or out. For more information on the zoom features and functionality of IE 7, see the Microsoft website.

Saving Images

Saving the images to a folder is recommended. This way you will have the opportunity to work with the images later for printing or other purposes.
To save an image:

  1. View the larger image in the new window that opens.
  2. Right-click on the image
  3. Choose Save Picture As
  4. Create a new folder in the Save Picture dialogue box. If you title the folder the same as your search key, e.g., "123 Apple ST SW," then you will have a record of all your images. Title the pictures Top, North Side, South Side, East Side, or West Side if you wish to retain the image's orientation.
  5. Ensure Save as type: JPG (*.jpg) is selected
  6. Click Save

Printing Images

While the majority of single family residential properties—and many commercial properties—will print on a standard letter-sized page, City Online does not guarantee this will occur in all cases.

Parcel lot sizes, printer preferences such as margin size, headers and footers, etc., all impact your ability to fit content such as images on a single page. IE 7 users can, however, benefit from additional browser functionality by using the Print Preview pane.

Features such as "Shrink to Fit," and the ability to print multiple pages of images may be useful to you when using Property View. For more information on the features and functionality of IE 7 see the Microsoft website.

There are two preferred printing methods:

Method 1

  1. View the large image in the new window that opens.
  2. Click on the words: Top, North Side, South Side, East Side, or West Side within this new window to navigate to the different views. Alternatively, you may use your browser's Back and Forward buttons/keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Choose File > Print Preview from your browser Adjust printer preferences as required
  4. Click Print

Method 2

  1. View the larger image in the new window that opens.
  2. Click on the words: Top, North Side, South Side, East Side, or West Side within this new window to navigate to the different views. Alternatively, you may use your browser's Back and Forward buttons/keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Right click on the larger image you wish to print Select Print Picture...
  4. Adjust printer preferences as required
  5. Click Print

If you wish to print images of the smaller thumbnail images from the PropertyView or NeighbourhoodView report window, Method 1 will allow you to see the orientation of each thumbnail. You can keep this printout of the report page as a guide to the larger files you save, and refer to it to determine which is the Top, North Side, South Side, etc., of the images as required. Do not close this window without either Saving or Printing the images. Remember, if not saved, after closing these windows you will need to re-enter the search if you wish to see the images again. You will be charged for a second search.
