The City of Calgary's Office of Land Servicing & Housing is preparing to build a multi-residential development on two vacant parcels of City-owned land that will be well integrated into the community of Crescent Heights (see details about the land parcels). The proposed Crescent Heights development will accommodate individuals and families living on lower incomes that do not allow access to market-value rental housing. Rents will be set according to a mixed income model to maintain the financial sustainability of the building. Once constructed, Calgary Housing Company (an arm of The City of Calgary) will manage the building and work with the residents and surrounding community to create and maintain a safe, secure and well-managed property.
The Crescent Heights development will help fulfill The City's target of creating 88 affordable housing units per year. The building design and site elements will meet the requirements outlined in the 16 Avenue North Urban Corridor Area Redevelopment Plan, as well as The City's standards for sustainable infrastructure and design recommendations identified in the Crescent Heights Area Redevelopment Plan.
To ensure the building is well designed and integrated into the community, The City is committed to working with the community of Crescent Heights.
The project is currently under construction and is expected to be complete in March 2016.
