The City of Calgary is proposing to construct a multi-residential development on a vacant parcel of City-owned land that will be well integrated into the community of Kingsland (see details about the land parcel). The proposed Kingsland development will accommodate individuals and families living on fixed or lower incomes that do not allow allow access to market-value rental housing. Rents will be set according to a mixed income model to maintain the financial sustainability of the building. Once constructed, Calgary Housing Company (an arm of The City of Calgary) will manage the building and work with the residents and surrounding community to create and maintain a safe, secure and well-managed property.
The Kingsland development will help fulfill The City's target of creating 88 affordable housing units per year. The building and site elements will meet the requirements outlined in theKingsland Community Plan, as well as The City's standards for sustainable infrastructure and design recommendations identified in the Glenmore Land Use Study. To ensure the building is well designed and integrated into the community, The City is committed to working with the community of Kingsland.
