While Architecture deals with specific buildings, Urban Design relates to the places between the buildings that are the public realm, including streets, pathways, parks, tree planting, “street furniture” and lighting.
The Bridges is known for its urban design and high quality architecture that have created a livable and vibrant community. The attention to detail in building materials and streetscape has resulted in a welcoming environment for all those who live, work in or visit The Bridges.
In the early planning stages, extensive public participation, including design charrettes and a design ideas competition, were undertaken. The winning design concept/masterplan set out how the streets and open space would be organized and determined the basic parameters for the urban design and architecture that would be built in The Bridges.
