Pet licence reunites dog and owner in Mexico
At Animal & Bylaw Services, we say that your pet's licence is his ticket home. Colleen S., a responsible Calgary pet owner, discovered that this ticket home is useful in unexpected places. Colleen was in Mexico with her family, and their pets – two dogs and one cat – when her border collie, Sammy, went missing on the beach.
Sammy was adopted by Colleen from a shelter in Mexico. As a former stray, she had a bit of a curious streak. While Colleen and her family were enjoying a day out in the sun, Sammy followed another tourist down the beach and couldn't find her way home. After a furious search for her lost canine companion, Colleen received a surprising phone call from the City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services. We had located her lost dog. How, you ask? A little bit of luck and a whole lot of licence!
Sammy was wearing her City of Calgary licence tag when she was found by a tourist from Spain. The Spaniard, with the help of another tourist from Holland who spoke English, called Animal & Bylaw Services from Mexico to report the lost dog. Animal & Bylaw Services was able to track down Colleen in Mexico. Quite the international incident!
The staff at Animal & Bylaw Services coordinated the reunion between Colleen and Sammy, providing a happy ending to what could have been a holiday tragedy. What a great reminder that even thousands of kilometres away from home, your pet's licence can help you reunite with a lost furry friend.
