Calgary Combative Sports Commission

The purpose of the Calgary Combative Sports Commission is to regulate, govern and control professional combative sporting events and contestants within the city of Calgary. The Calgary Combative Sports Commission will publish rules governing the conduct of these events.

 On March 1, 2007, the ​Combative Sports Commission bylaw and structure was implemented. The Commission consists of seven (7) members who meet the eligibility criteria set out in the bylaw, and the Chief Licence Inspector who is a non-voting member. Members appointed by Council are eligible for re-appointment for a maximum of four (4) consecutive terms. Each term cannot exceed two (2) years. Quorum shall be at least four (4) voting members.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 12:00 p.m. A meeting will not be held in the month of August.

News

Information sessions 

The Calgary Combative Sports Commission held a series of information sessions with promoters, managers, coaches and MMA fighters who participate in MMA events in Calgary, along with promoters who specialize in boxing and muay thai (who may have MMA fighters training in their facilities). The sessions provided an opportunity for these stakeholdersto provide input into a new draft of the Calgary Unified Rules prior to these rules coming into effect.

The City of Calgary Combative Sports Commission has approved the Alberta Boxing Commission to sanction the amateur boxing events and Muaythai Canada to sanction the amateur muay thai events that are held in the City of Calgary.
