Staples for Education

Donation update August 26, 2011: We are at 64 per cent of this year’s goal of 3,000 backpacks. School starts next week and we are calling on the generosity of all Calgarians to help a child in need.

Staples for Education

Help fill a backpack

Here's how the program works:

  • All ten Staples stores locations in Calgary are accepting donations of cash and suggested grade appropriate supplies.
  • A cash donation of $40 ensures a complete backpack.
  • Donators will receive a recognition name card (in the shape of a backpack) to be displayed in the Staples store.
  • Donations totalling $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt from The City.
  • The registration cut off for a child in need is Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.
  • Backpacks will be delivered to the registered children in need starting Aug. 30, 2011.
  • Staples stores will be collecting donations until September 17.

More about Staples for Education

The Staples for Education program backpacks are filled with support from generous Calgarians. The program has made a big difference in the lives of children an d over the years our program has filled thousands of backpacks with school supplies. Last year we filled over 2,400 backpacks and raised $93,307.57. Our goal in 2011, is to get enough donations to fill 3,000 backpacks.

The Staples for Education program believes children need the right tools to succeed when they start a new school year. Through community agencies and other connections, the program receives requests for support from low income Calgarians. Staples stores collect cash and school supply donations. Supplies are then packed into backpacks and provided to the young students at the beginning of the school year.

The program is coordinated by The City of Calgary, Community and Neighbourhood Services.
