The Calgary Fire Department 2000s and beyond

Children and youth have always been welcome partners with the Calgary Fire Department, which launched a special Fire Cadet program in the summer of 2000. The program chose 20 high school students to learn firefighting basics, and students aged 15 to 17 were invited to participate. The teens enjoyed a variety of experiences, such as how to use a fire extinguisher, save a life with CPR and specific life skills and community involvement.

Firefighter recruitment, expansion of services, and a new Chief were the focus of the first decade in the new millennium.
