The Safe Housing Inspection Program (SHIP) is a collaborative effort of the Calgary Fire Department and other municipal and provincial agencies working to ensure rental housing is safe within the City of Calgary.
The SHIP team takes a co-ordinated approach to identifying unsafe residential rental housing and conducts comprehensive joint inspections of these programs.
Our partners include the Calgary Police Service, City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services and other City departments. Buildings are selected for inspection by the various agencies involved in SHIP.
Alberta Fire Code violations include the lack of working smoke detectors, blocked or locked exit doors, accumulation of combustible materials, failure to install portable fire extinguishers, the absence of a working fire alarm system and other unsafe conditions in residential buildings and units.
