Pet Stickers

When Calgary firefighters arrive at your home to provide emergency service and support, make sure your pet counts.

The City of Calgary's Animal & Bylaw Services department provides a vinyl window sticker to notify emergency responders that a dog or cat may be in the residence. This is particularly important if you are not at home, or unable to provide information about your pet at the time of the incident.

Use a permanent marker to fill out the sticker and place it on a main-floor window as close to your front entrance as possible. Take the sticker with you when you move.

Animals may also be left unattended in the aftermath of a motor vehicle collision or fire. Our firefighting crews are equipped with items such as crates and leashes to secure pets and provide a safe, caring environment during emergencies.

Ensure your family emergency plan includes your dogs and cats. Make sure you arrange in advance for an alternative home for your pet in the event of an emergency.

Never attempt to enter your home to rescue your pet in a fire or other emergency. Call 9-1-1 from a safe phone and allow properly equipped fire professionals to recover your pet.

In a medical emergency response that doesn't require you to leave your home, please contain your pet to ensure its safety.

What happened to my pet?

If an animal is recovered from your home or vehicle following an emergency, it will be taken to The City's Animal Services Centre for short-term safekeeping.

The Calgary Fire Department, Animal & Bylaw Services, the Calgary Police Service and Emergency Medical Services all promote responsible pet ownership through education.
