The Calgary Fire Department appreciates the importance of a youth-focused program that uses professional training methods to teach students important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, pride, and respect.
In 2000, the inaugural Fire Cadet Program class offered 24 teens a first-hand opportunity to experience the fire service in a meaningful way. This unique program was initially modeled after other successful, international cadet prototypes. The eagerness that the cadets demonstrated, both in the classroom and on the fire ground, made the program a true success.
In 2010 the Fire Cadet Program celebrated our 10th Anniversary. Since the program began in 2000, more than 200 students have graduated from the program. The program continues to evolve as we strive to meet the needs of the youth in our community.
