Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
All applicants who progress to further steps in the selection process will be required to complete the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). The CPAT is one of two pre-employment fitness assessments that measure a firefighter candidate's minimal physical fitness level and ability to perform essential tasks at emergency scenes. It consists of eight separate events in which you progress along a predetermined path in a continuous manner. The eight stations are placed in a sequence that best simulates fire scene events.
You can find more information on the CPAT by downloading theCPAT Orientation Guide and by viewing the video below.

Wellness Fitness Initiative (WFI) Treadmill Evaluation
If provided with a conditional job offer, an applicant will be required to participate in a pre-employment medical assessment. Part of this assessment involves determining a firefighter candidate's cardiovascular fitness through theWFI Treadmill Evaluation.
During this evaluation, aerobic fitness conditioning is assessed by measuring a candidate's workload capacity while exercising at his/her maximum. The accepted minimum standard for the treadmill evaluation is 12 minutes, 30 seconds.
To help you prepare for this test, refer to theWFI Treadmill Training Program.
Please note: it is important to have an awareness of your ability to partake in physical activity at the level required of firefighters. Refer to theWFI Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) before beginning an aerobic fitness evaluation.
