Cremation interment options

The City of Calgary offers a variety of cremation interment options.

Historic Union Cemetery and beautiful Queen’s Park Cemetery feature exquisite columbariums within the beautifully landscaped grounds. The elegant Queen’s Park Mausoleum also offers cremation interment options.

The Scattering Gardens and Ossuary at Queen’s Park Cemetery provide an opportunity for family and friends to experience a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for visiting and reflection.

Columbariums

Columbariums are above-ground, outdoor structures made up of individual niches specifically for the entombment of cremated remains. Each niche houses one or more urns containing the cremated remains of loved ones.

For those exploring cremation options, Calgary Cemeteries offers several unique columbariums at Queen’s Park and Union cemeteries. Columbariums provide a distinct and dignified cremation interment option that blends elegantly into the natural landscape as an everlasting tribute to your loved one.

To personalize your loved one’s memory, the front of each niche can include an engraving or bronze plaque. Columbariums can be tailored to suit individual needs and preferences. For example, family statues, themes and historical depictions can be incorporated. Additionally, there is a columbarium at Queen’s Park Cemetery included in the Field of Honour, commemorating those who have fought for our country. Each columbarium is unique.

Cremation scattering

Increasingly, Calgarians are choosing cremation as an alternative to traditional burial. There are several options available for those who select this option. Queen’s Park Cemetery offers beautifully maintained Scattering Gardens. The natural setting provides a serene and calm resting place for loved ones. Memorial Walls located in the Scattering Gardens offer a permanent reminder of those we hold dear, and are available for those who wish to place a bronze plaque.

In addition to the Scattering Gardens, we also offer an ossuary, an underground vessel that contains the collective cremated remains of loved ones. Made of granite, the ossuary stands as a respectful tribute to those who have passed away.

Cremated remains may also be scattered on a plot at ground level.

Selecting a final resting place is an important decision, and careful consideration should be given to this choice. Calgary Cemeteries can help.
