Parks have a special place in the hearts of Calgarians and in our communities. Calgary is blessed with an abundance and variety of public open spaces, ranging from natural areas to playgrounds, playfields, off-leash areas, community gardens, pathways and more.
imagineParks
The City of Calgary is creating a 30-year vision for a sustainable, efficient and effective open space system. It will serve as the foundation for future City of Calgary Parks 10-year strategic plans and short-term business plans.
Public feedback
Thank you to everyone who reviewed and provided feedback on the
initial framework of the imagineParks 30-year vision. Once finalized, the vision will serve as the foundation for future 10-year strategic plans and short-term business plans for Calgary’s municipal parks and open space.
A more detailed draft of the imagineParks 30-year vision will be posted on this web site in June 2013 for public review and feedback (rather than March as originally planned). This allows more time for stakeholder review and feedback this spring and The City of Calgary Parks to align the imagineParks vision with Council efficiency and effectiveness programs now underway. Input received in June will be considered for the draft that will be presented to Council’s Community and Protective Services Committee in winter 2013.
The development of the draft document is guided by public engagement,
research , and legislative requirements. The draft 30-year vision aligns with The City of Calgary’s existing long-range plans such as: imagineCALGARY, the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and the 2020 Sustainability Direction.
The City received over 1,400 responses this summer from Calgarians who participated in imagineParks focus groups, workshops and online/telephone surveys. Public input for the draft plan was collected from stakeholder groups and citizens from all walks of life, including frequent and infrequent park users. This winter, additional discussions were held with 180 children and youth to gather their input and imaginative ideas.
