Timelines for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games potential bid


Dialogue stage

The City of Calgary will decide whether we will bid on the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

  • January 16-19, 2018: International Olympic Committee (IOC) tour Calgary.
  • February 9-25, 2018: PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games.
  • March 8-18, 2018: PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Games.
  • March 19, 2018: Project team updates Council on bid process.
  • April 2018: Deadline for cities to enter the bid application process by joining the IOC Dialogue Stage.
  • October 2018: IOC recommends which interested cities to invite to the Candidature Stage (bidding stage).

Candidature stage

The process of creating a bid, if The City of Calgary decides to bid on the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is as follows:

  • January 2019: Deadline to submit bid for 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  • March and April 2019: International Olympic Committee (IOC) begins analysis of Olympic bids. A visit to each candidate is made. IOC may request additional information or guarantees from potential host cities.
  • June and July 2019: Evaluation Commission Report is published by the IOC.
  • July 2019: Candidate cities can respond to the publication of the Evaluation Commission Report.
  • September 2019: The 2026 Games is awarded to the winning city.
