2026 Olympic bid

Calgary is exploring the potential bid for 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The City of Calgary is currently in the Dialogue Stage of the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (OPWG) bid process:

  • Determining the financial viability of hosting the Games
  • Clarifying citizen opinion and perspectives on a potential Olympic bid
  • Understanding shared government priorities for the city, province and country’s future
  • Evaluating possible risks and benefits of an Olympic bid and hosting the Games
  • Exploring the potential vision and legacy of a bid and hosting the Games
  • Understanding whether or not hosting the Games would support Calgary’s long term economic and cultural growth
  • Understanding International Olympic Committee (IOC) requirements

Once The City gathers this information, The City and its key partners (Government of Canada, Government of Alberta, the Town of Canmore, the Canadian Olympic Committee, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee) will decide whether or not to bid on the 2026 OPWG.
