Festivals and Events enhance the quality of life in Calgary and are an essential element in creating complete communities. These experiences are recognized to have significant value by citizens and visitors and are a vital ingredient in Calgary’s on-going development as an active and creative city.
We provide a one-window-in approach for planning festivals & events taking place on City land.
In 2016 we supported 272 events translating to 610 event days. Of these events, 140 received funding through the Festival and Event Subsidy Program, and 19 events received funding through the Council Strategic Initiatives Fund.
The City of Calgary proudly presents Canada Day, Recreation New Year’s Eve Family Dance Party, and the Alberta Culture Days Kick-Off Celebration each year. In addition, the Event Service’s Team partners with regional, national and international organizations to deliver unique one-time events such as the Tour of Alberta, the Junos and WorldSkills.
