Outdoor climbing wall at Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre

We offer supervised and unsupervised drop-in climbing times for all levels, belay introduction lessons included with your admission and registered programs to help beginners get going! All climbers age 13 and older must demonstrate proper use of harness and safe belaying before climbing. Children 4 -12 years may climb on their own during Supervised Climbing but must be accompanied by an adult (18 years and up) during Unsupervised Climbing. Use of the rock climbing wall is weather dependant. Drop-in schedule is subject to change without notice.

Climbers must complete a current annual signed waiver form. Climbers under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian sign the waiver form. Current waivers are good until December 31st of each year, regardless of issue date. 

Climbers 13 years and older must present their Climbing Wall Card to gain access to the top-rope climbing wall during Supervised Climbing & auto-belay climbing wall during Unsupervised Climbing. Photo ID may be required. We do not accept other Climbing Cards from other facilities. A $10 charge for lost/stolen/damaged Climbing Wall card. Our rock climbing wall is designed for all levels and includes a wide range of challenges.

  • 40 feet high, 23 feet wide
  • 3 to 6 Top-Rope belay routes
  • 3 Auto-Belay routes

Drop-in Belay Introduction Lesson (included in general admission)

This one-hour lesson is highly recommended and will teach you the basic skills required to top-rope climb and belay. You may also choose to learn the basic skills and safety required to use the auto-belay device only. Recommended for anyone ages 13 and older.

Family Belay Introduction Lessons focuses on ensuring both children and parents feel comfortable climbing as a team. Adults and children 9 and up will learn how to belay each other. Children 6 and older will learn how to put on their harness, tie their knot and check their belayer. Children 4 to 12 year olds must be accompanied by an adult climber).

A Rock Climbing Instructor is available and equipment is provided, except for climbing shoes. A signed waiver form for each participant is required. Please arrive on time and no later than 5 minutes into the start of a Belay Introduction Lesson. Maximum 8 climbers at one time.

Participants are required to demonstrate the following Auto-Belay &/or Top-Rope Climbing without assistance to successfully pass the belay test:

  • Auto-Belay safety checks and proper operation of device
  • Harness
  • Figure 8 and Follow through Knot
  • Gri-Gri Knowledge
  • Belay Technique
  • Belayer and Climber Commands

Drop-in Climbing Supervised & Family Supervised

Come in and climb by yourself, with friends or families using our auto-belays that lets you climb to the top without a partner. Completion of Belay Introduction Lesson is mandatory prior to practicing your top-rope climbing skills.  Both are great ways to try climbing and we offer enough variety for the beginner to have fun and for the expert to stay interested. 

Auto-Belay Only or Top-Rope Tests may be completed during Supervised Climbing time. Climbers may opt to “challenge” the belay test by a Rock Climbing Instructor if they already have belaying experience with the Auto-Belay device or a GriGri.

A signed waiver form for each participant is required.  Suitable for all skills levels ages 4 years and up. Children 4 – 12 years old may climb on their own and be accompanied by an adult in the facility. Maximum 8 climbers at one time.

Drop-in Climbing – Kids Supervised

 
Watch your child reach new heights and build confidence. Enthusiastic staff will open your child’s eyes to this amazing sport and maybe even spark a lifelong obsession. No experience required. 
 
A Rock Climbing Instructor is available for coaching tips and equipment is provided, except for climbing shoes. A signed waiver form for each participant is required.  Suitable for children ages 7 to 15 years old.  Maximum 8 climbers at one time.

Drop-in Climbing - Unsupervised

Completion of Auto-Belay Only Test is mandatory prior to practicing your climbing skills using the auto-belay devices that keep you safe and let you down automatically when you are ready to come down. Bouldering is permitted under certain guidelines.

This climbing practice is unsupervised and equipment is provided, except for climbing shoes. A signed waiver form for each participant is required.  Suitable for all skills levels ages 4 years and up. Children ages 4 - 12 years must be with an adult climber (18 years and up) who has completed the Auto-Belay test. Maximum 6 climbers at one time.

Cost

Regular admission applies; parent/preschooler rate applies for children 4 to 6 years old.

Waivers required

Waivers for each participant must be filled out by a parent/guardian, or participant who is 18 years or older at Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre to participate in climbing programs.

Clothing and equipment

Ropes, harnesses and belay devices are provided at no extra charge for all programs. Climbing shoes are not provided, but clean snug-fitting running shoes are adequate.
