On June 19, 2011, during the official opening of Ralph Klein Park in Southeast Calgary, local writer Linda Hawke and renowned artist Peter von Tiesenhausen introduced a new public art catalogue entitled Celebration of the Bow River 2010.

This keepsake catalogue, brought to life through Hawke's descriptive text and vivid images taken by local photographer Carlos Amat, outlines the works and processes of six remarkable artists during the temporary Celebration of the Bow River 2010 event - an award-winning public art series that merged ecology, artistry and the community to bring the river into public focus.
One of the projects, Sources: River of Light, was recently recognized as one of North America's top 50 outstanding projects of 2010 by Americans for the Arts. This project alone drew 10,000 Calgarians along the river to view 500 illuminated spheres, each one metre in diameter, released at a pedestrian bridge for a 90 - minute journey at dusk. The spheres were lit in colours proportionately representing the Bow River make-up of rain, glacier melt, snow and ground water.

Another project, von Tiesenhausen's Passages, involved the release of 100 artist-carved boats into the river as a tribute to the watershed. The boats are still being discovered today.
The inspiration for Celebration comes from the UEP Public Art Plan. In January of 2007, The Department of Utilities and Environmental Protection (UEP) launched its visionary plan that is founded on the principle that public art, in collaboration with other disciplines, can create remarkable places that encourage sustainability and stewardship of the environment.
