Glenmore Odgen

Description

The City of Calgary Public Art Program and the Transportation Department are seeking a professional artist(s) with established public art experience for a permanent public art project at the new Glenmore Trail and Ogden Road S.E. interchange.

This is a unique opportunity for a local artist with two-dimensional artistic experience to develop a design (or series of designs) which will be executed and installed by a professional mosaic glass and tile fabricator on the three piers of the underpass.

Glenmore Trail is one of the most important arteries in the city, which turns into provincial highways both east (Highway 56) and west (Highway 8) of the city limits. This is a significant location with high levels of vehicular traffic, connecting the city’s industrial area with residential communities to the North and West of the site. To support the need for increased mobility capacity at this location, a diamond interchange is being constructed over Glenmore Trail at Ogden Road S.E.

Public Art Budget $22,000 for artist design
up to $290,000 for fabrication and installation
Year Approved 2015
Artist The Call to Artists closed on June 1, 2016. The chosen artist will be announced once the selection panel and contractual processes are complete.
Expected Completion Summer 2017
