Parks Public Art Plan

Description A significant opportunity exists to help shape and define the future public art experience for the Calgary Parks.

The City of Calgary is seeking to hire a consultant or consultant team to research and develop a public art plan responding to the Parks business unit. The ideal proponent will be a Public Art Consultant or Artist with experience in creating public art plans. Experience with parks initiatives is preferred but not mandatory. The proponent will be expected to understand the opportunities and constraints of working in Parks; be able to engage and interpret the unique qualities of parks into a vision and define opportunities for integration of public art throughout Parks systems. This document should be a guiding framework for Parks to develop future public art projects.

Parks enables, contributes and sustains dynamic communities through great parks and open spaces. Parks have a special place in the hearts of Calgarians and in our communities. Calgary is blessed with an abundance and variety of public open spaces, ranging from natural areas to playgrounds, playfields, off-leash areas, cultural landscapes, community gardens, pathways and more. Parks ensures a variety of public open spaces are accessible to all regardless of age, income, gender, culture or ability. These spaces provide opportunities for rest and relaxation, social interaction, community vitality and a range of recreational, cultural and educational experiences. The direct link between human wellness and access to high-quality open space is understood and acted upon. A diversity of public parks, pathways and natural areas are enjoyed, resulting in personal and community well-being. Community stewardship and cultural preservation demonstrate value for, and ownership of our parks and open space.
