Parks, Pathways and Green Spaces Booking Information

  • Booking time: For all parks, pathways, and green spaces, sites are booked in daily increments.
  • Picnic site fees apply if booking a picnic site for a special event.
  • Prince’s Island Park is only available for booking large annual festivals and events.
  • Booking any one of these facilities requires a special event permit.

Parks, Pathways and Green Spaces Application Information

  • A special event is an event that occurs in a City of Calgary park or greenspace and is categorized as anything that has a greater impact on neighbouring communities and is not consistent with the intended or typical use of the park (i.e. picnic site is not being used for a picnic, a playfield is not being used for soccer, a pathway is being used for a fundraising walk, or a park is being used for a wedding).
  • Some activities and equipment require permission from the City of Calgary Parks offices. For example:
    • Set up of tents (not exceeding a combined 600 sq ft)
    • Set up of temporary stages or other structures (i.e. risers). Note: stages must be under 2 feet tall and cannot house major equipment or bands.
    • Dunk tanks and/or inflatable bouncers
    • Petting zoos and events involving animals
    • Vehicle access to the park or picnic site
    • BBQ's that are large, solid fuelled (use of charcoal, wood or smoke chips such as those for smoking or roasting whole animals)
    • Food sales, service or distribution (i.e. serving or selling food/ beverages to the public)
    • Posting banners or signs
    • Amplified or acoustic performances (dance, theatre, music)
    • Selling merchandise
    • Face painting
    • Fundraising event
    • Walk, run or marathon
    • Wedding ceremony
    • Community fun days, carnivals or movies in the park
    • Fitness/boot camp
  • If any of the following four components apply to your event, it is considered a festival event and you must contact Event Services. Visit planning a festival for more information.
    • Fireworks, open flame or other pyrotechnics
    • Tents, stages and/or other structures exceed a combined 600 square feet
    • Alcohol sales or service
    • Use of roadways

Parks, Pathways and Green Spaces Special Event Application Information

  • Book a park, pathway or green space through our special event and greenspace application.
  • Applications must be received a minimum of 8 weeks prior to your event date.
  • If route maps or site layouts are required for your event, you must email or fax these to our Facility Bookings office. When sending us these maps, please include the event name.
  • Once all information (completed application and any maps/layouts) is received and availability is confirmed, your event will be tentatively booked, and you will be contacted for payment of a $26.25 non-refundable special event administration fee.
  • Your application will be sent to the appropriate Parks area office(s) for review.
  • Picnic site fees apply if booking a picnic site for a special event. If additional greenspace is required to accommodate the event, additional greenspace fees will apply.
  • You will be notified once approval/denial is received from the Parks office.
  • The event may be subject to various terms and conditions as determined by Parks.
  • A permit will be issued listing any conditions of use, including insurance requirements.

Parks, Pathways and Green Spaces Payment Information

  • Payment is due a minimum of 14 days before the planned event or 7 days after the permit is firmed, depending on the event.
  • Additional fees (i.e. electrical hook-up charges, damage deposits, etc.) may also be charged upon approval from Parks.

  • Your permit is your official invoice.

Park, Pathways and Green Spaces Cancellation Policies

  • Please review our standard cancellation & amendment policies that apply to all regular bookings.
  • You can cancel or change your booking using the amendment app or by contacting Facility Bookings.
  • Additional Cancellation & Amendment Notes:
  • Cancellation or amendment requests must be received by the Facility Bookings office a minimum of 7 business days before the rental date. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the renter being charged the full cost of the rental.
  • It is strongly suggested that amendments are made with at least 6 - 8 weeks’ notice.
  • Inclement weather
  • Inclement weather refunds will be given in the event of significant precipitation (heavy rain, hail, sleet and snow). It is the permit holder’s responsibility to contact the Bookings office to arrange a refund. Refunds will be granted on a case-by-case basis depending on historical data supplied by Environment Canada.
  • Boot Camps/Outdoor Fitness permits and events that are permitted regardless of weather conditions will not qualify for a refund.
  • Refunds will not be granted in the event of cold weather or strong winds.
  • Refunds are subject to confirmation from the Parks area office to confirm event did not run due to poor weather.
  • Inclement weather refunds are not provided based on predicted weather prior to the day of the event.
  • Parks reserves the right to cancel an event if weather conditions provide an unsafe environment or create conditions that can damage the turf. You will be contacted by the Parks foreman or District Supervisor in these instances.
