Great Plains recreation facility

Opening in 2016*

Bringing together ice sport enthusiasts from across the city, this approximately 80,000 sq. ft. competitive tournament facility will feature two multi-purpose rinks for ice sports such as hockey, sledge hockey, ringette and figure skating.

Designed for the athletes and also the fans, it will accommodate up to 600 spectators through a combination of warm and cold-side seating.

Amenities include:

  • Two multi-purpose rinks
  • Enhanced spectator seating for one of the rinks
  • Large and small rooms for use as a fitness centre, studios, classrooms and meeting spaces
  • Food services
  • Pro shop with skate sharpening

The City of Calgary is working with Canlan Ice Sports as the facility operator of the new Great Plains recreation centre. Canlan Ice Sports is committed to providing all ice enthusiasts with opportunities for sport, recreation and leisure at the new facility.
