The Sport Facility Renewal (SFR) Funding Program represents Council’s commitment to invest $40 million of funding towards the renewal and upgrade of existing sport facilities in Calgary. In 2007, Council directed that $10 million in funding be available to each quadrant.
Projects eligible for funding include non-routine/major maintenance or upgrades of existing sport amenities.
Since 2008, seventeen community projects and twelve city projects have been approved by Council for funding under the Province’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative.
The SFR Application Process outlines the key information and steps for submitting your project for consideration. The first step is to submit a Project Pre-Screening form, Project Pre-Screening Checklist and any supporting documentation by 2015 November 20. In addition, the SFR Guidelines provides greater detail on all aspects of the SFR program including funding, eligibility, the program application process, project prioritization, and considerations once a project is approved.
The 10 Year Sport Strategic Plan for Sport Facility Development & Enhancement is central to the strategic objectives of the SFR Program and will be used as an important part of the assessment and prioritization of submitted projects.
The 2016 SFR Application round is open for remaining funds in active quadrants. The application period is now open and applications are being accepted for projects from the NE, and NW quadrants only.
