Ward 2 official website

Please join me once again for our annual Ward 2 Stampede BBQ on Saturday, July 14th from 11am-2pm at Loblaws City Market in Sage Hill. This free BBQ will be a great opportunity for residents and businesses in Ward 2 to get to know each other and strengthen each other’s community connections.

There are new traffic lights being installed on Shaganappi Trail and Sherwood Gate as well as on Symons Valley Parkway and Sherwood Drive/Nolan Hill Drive. Thank you to the community for your advocacy on these important safety improvements that helped make this happen!

Neighbour Day will be held this month on Saturday, June 16th to celebrate Calgary’s strong community spirit. This event originated in 2014 to commemorate the incredible support and generosity demonstrated after the 2013 floods. I welcome Ward 2 residents to celebrate this day by attending and hosting neighbourhood events. This day is an opportunity for communities across the city to get together with your neighbours in the form of BBQs, block parties, cleanups and potlucks. Please email me your events at Joe.Magliocca@calgary.ca as I would love to take part in your celebration! Visit calgary.ca/NeighbourDay for more information.

City Council has approved a bylaw that will limit public consumption of cannabis once federal legalization has taken place. Public consumption rules for cannabis will be similar to those for public consumption of alcohol. Under the new Cannabis Consumption Bylaw, consumption of non-medical cannabis in any form (smoking, vaping, or edibles) will be prohibited in public places. A person may smoke, vape or otherwise consume cannabis on private property. An exemption to the Cannabis Consumption Bylaw will apply for medical cannabis, which may be smoked or vaped in the same areas that are allowed under the Smoking Bylaw, and prohibited in the same areas.
