Renee (small business owner)

Cut Red Tape
Renee - small business owner persona

Renee recently finished her electrician apprenticeship program at SAIT and has decided to start her own business. To get started, she applied for a business licence online and found the process to be simple, convenient and customer-friendly. She had already had a number of clients lined up and was excited to get working as soon as possible. Renee registered as a new trade contractor online through Trade Permits Online by clicking on the appropriate trade permit in the drop down menu. She was able to pay for and receive the permit electronically saving herself a trip down to City Hall. Her clients may also call 311 to confirm that she is a registered trades person.

Renee books all of her inspections by calling 311 – she can call any time of day, 24/7 which suits her business schedule as she is often onsite working and doesn’t have time to call until the evenings. Renee could also log into Vista and request a trade permit inspection electronically, 24/7, where she applied for her permits.

Renee's interaction with The City to set up her business and receive permits for her work has been a simple, fast and convenient process allowing her to begin practicing her trade in a timely manner and giving her business an opportunity to succeed.
