Many organizations including The City of Calgary require police security checks prior to participating in volunteer opportunities. Citizens who participate in multiple organizations are then required to provide separate police checks each time they join a new volunteer position. This leads to multiple requests for the same document to be provided to multiple locations costing time and money for the citizen, Calgary Police Services and the volunteer organizations.
Changes to be made
Since the time of this issue being submitted, the Calgary Police Service has changed the way police security checks are distributed. Once an individual is approved for clearance, the individual is provided with a copy of their clearance record and becomes the property of the individual to share as needed.
