You must come into the LTS office in person to renew your licence. This must be done on the earliest expiry of either:
- your birthday* OR
- expiry date of your work permit
* You may renew in the month prior to your birthday.
You will be required to present several pieces of accepted identification, return expired licence and complete a Permission Form giving consent for LTS to obtain:
- Calgary Police Services (CPS) Information check (criminal background)
- Driving Abstract
Licence renewal and CPS check fees are collected.
New photo is taken and the renewed licence is created.
Note: The renewed licence is given, pending results of the CPS and driving record check and may be suspended or revoked if an unsatisfactory result is returned.
LTS submits the CPS check and obtains a Driving Abstract.
The following original documents must be produced to renew your licence (photocopies are not accepted):
- Valid Alberta Driver's Licence (Class 1, 2, or 4); AND
- One (1) of the following:
A photocopy will be taken for your file at LTS and the originals returned to you before you leave.
The following states important information from Livery Transport Bylaw 6M2007 with respect to the application to renew a Taxi Driver's Licence. It is your responsibility to obtain a copy of the current bylaw and know and understand it.
Section 71(2): "If a licence expires and an application to renew is not made within thirty days of expiry then the Licence is deemed to have been abandoned and the right to renew is forfeited."
If this occurs, to obtain a licence to drive a taxi, you will need to successfully complete the Taxi Driver Training Course and pay the applicable fees.
Section 55: "No Person shall operate a Taxi or Accessible Taxi without a valid and subsisting T.D.L."
Section 56: "No Person shall operate a Limousine without a valid and subsisting L.D.L."
