Clean to the Core

clean to the core
The City of Calgary's Clean to the Core (C2C) program began in 2006 to strengthen safety, add vitality and make our Centre City an appealing and exciting place to visit, explore and enjoy.

This program has five specific goals for Calgary's Centre City:

  • Improve cleanliness.
  • Ensure safety and quality of life.
  • Develop a graffiti abatement program.
  • Enhance the aesthetic appeal.
  • Expand partnerships, communication and programming.
Clean to the core

Clean to the Core is a collaborative effort of the Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission, Animal & Bylaw Services, Calgary Transit, Parks, Roads, Environmental & Safety Management, Land Use Planning & Policy, Development & Building Approvals, Corporate Properties & Buildings, Law, Recreation, Community & Neighbourhood Services, 3-1-1 and Centre City Implementation.

The Clean to the Core program also works with community partners and downtown businesses to implement real and sustainable change in our community.

The Centre City Blog posts regular updates on our projects.

Clean to the Core Program highlights:

  • Installation of small litter bins throughout Centre City to help eliminate cigarette butt waste.
  • Installation of public toilets to increase accessibility.
  • Additional sidewalk sweepers and cleaning programs.
  • Litter Index Survey conducted to tackle identified high-litter areas and to better deploy resources.
  • Enhanced lighting, flower pots and baskets to add vibrancy and vitality to our Centre City.
  • Traffic signal box beautification, graffiti abatement and recycling program initiated in Chinatown and Centre City parks and plazas.
  • Development of a partner recognition program to acknowledge those who keep our Centre City safe and clean.
