In 2001, The International Year of Volunteers, Calgary City Council recognized the important contribution of volunteers to the quality of life and vibrancy of our city by designating Centre St. S. between 10th and 18th Avenue as “Centre Street S Salutes the Volunteer Way”. In 2007, stakeholders were engaged to provide feedback on the development of a draft streetscape concept. Building on this previous work, multiple internal and external stakeholders were recently re-engaged to enhance the master plan for the streetscape design of Volunteer Way. This public open house hosted at the Kahanoff Centre attracted 50+ local residents, business and community representatives, staff and volunteers from not for profit organizations in the geographic area.
The vision of the master plan is to create an enjoyable, easily accessible urban corridor that celebrates and promotes volunteerism, encourages interaction and builds community.
