The Plan area is located north of 144 Avenue NW, west of 14 Street NW, east of 85 Street NW and south of Rocky View County. The area encompasses 3,187 acres of mostly undeveloped land, which will accommodate retail, commercial, office and residential uses. A significant feature of the Plan is the long-term closure of Symons Valley Road, west of Mountain View Road to enlarge the natural areas beside West Nose Creek. The road closure will not occur until Shaganappi Trail has been extended north through the Plan Area to provide the new connection to Hwy 772.

Area structure plan process
An area structure plan (ASP) is a document that guides development in new communities, and it's the first step to gain planning approvals for new community development. An ASP sets out the high-level land uses and transportation network for an area, and identifies areas of environmental significance. It also identifies school sites, activity centres and servicing requirements.
The Glacier Ridge ASP will be ready for City Council consideration by December 2015. Until then, City staff will be working with a stakeholder group to create a land use concept, draft the policies, create diagrams and maps, and ultimately put together the ASP. The timeline for this process is shown below:
