The City of Calgary, with O2 Planning + Design Inc., is developing a plan to enhance the West Eau Claire Park and adjacent public space.

The area has seen a lot of change over the past five years and new proposed developments will continue to shape the demands of the space.

Addressing the area along the Eau Claire Promenade from the Louise Bridge (10th Street SW) to Eau Claire Plaza, the plan will identify a clear vision and principles to guide the design, provide a public realm concept plan, and prioritize improvements.

The City considered all input received during the 2014 engagement to make informed decisions, and balance opposing views when creating the final design for the area. The draft plan was presented back to citizens to ensure it was consistent with what we heard through our engagement process.

Phase 1-construction

The project team has been busy through 2015 developing the design and coordinating with City Business Units which included the creation of a Steering Committee involving Planning, Transportation, Water Resources, Public Art and Parks. We are now moving forward with phase 1 of construction.

This will include

* Flood mitigation measures, to protect Calgary’s downtown, will be included as part of the enhancements planned for the area along the Eau Claire Promenade from the Louise Bridge (10th Street S.W.) to Eau Claire Plaza. Mitigation measures will be featured as part of the design and include raised pedestrian and bicycle pathways; elevated terraces that provide both flood protection and opportunities for park users to enjoy; and high backed benching placed in strategic areas to protect against flooding. Area enhancements are expected to begin in Q2/Q3 2016 with a goal of completion in Q3 2017.
