Inglewood’s 9 Avenue SE main street, originally named Atlantic Avenue, stretches from the Elbow River to 17 Avenue SE. It is located south of the Calgary Zoo and the East Village, surrounded by communities of Inglewood and Ramsay.

Inglewood is Calgary’s oldest community and was established after Fort Calgary was built in 1875, with 9 Avenue SE serving as its main street. It continues to serve as the community’s main street, providing shopping, restaurants, residential and commercial opportunities, as well as arterial access to the industrial lands functioning around the Canadian Pacific Rail line. The communities bordering 9 Avenue SE are attracting a significant amount of investment and revitalization.

9 Avenue Streetscape Master Plan

The City is developing a Streetscape Master Plan for 9 Avenue SE, as part of the Main Streets initiative’s investment phase. A streetscape includes all visual and functional elements of a street that collectively form its character.

The 9 Avenue S.E. Streetscape Master plan is entering its final stretch. Our project team has taken feedback we’ve received from Calgarians over the past year and are developing a final streetscape concept design for Inglewood and Ramsay’s main street.

What are we considering?

  • A main street that prioritizes pedestrians and transit
  • A preferred option for the street design (sidewalks, travel lanes and parking)
  • Street furniture and street lighting
  • Pop-up and permanent gathering areas
  • Park and laneway interfaces
  • Side street design
  • Public art opportunities

Engagement Opportunities

The 9 Avenue SE Streetscape Master Plan project is entering its final stretch, as we’ve taken feedback from engagement that took place in 2017 and early 2018 and are developing a concept design for the main street. Our next step is to share this concept design with community members in June.

Upcoming event:
Information session – learn about this project and review the final streetscape concept design.
June 4, 2018 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Festival Hall
1215 10 Avenue S.E.
