Mobility in Calgary

Building infrastructure for the future

The Transportation department plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains Calgary’s transportation system, including pedestrian, transit and road facilities.

Our focus is to provide a well-integrated network of mobility options that promote the safe, reliable and efficient movement of people and goods within and throughout the city: both here and now – and down the road. Smart growth means sustainability for the long run.

In recent years we’ve seen a shift in the way everyday Calgarians are choosing to get around the city. An increasing number of people are opting to walk, cycle or take public transit instead of driving. Others are realizing efficiencies by carpooling or adjusting their travel time to off-peak hours.

As Calgarians assess their travel options, they look for reliability, efficiency, cleanliness, safety and, increasingly, low impact on the environment. The Transportation department shares that vision and is committed to keep Calgary moving forward by:

  • Providing public transit that is clean, safe, well maintained and efficiently operated.
  • Improving facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Planning, designing and implementing transportation infrastructure that supports sustainability.
  • Optimizing existing infrastructure – the way we use it and the way we maintain it – to move people, vehicles and goods more efficiently.

Whether walking, cycling, taking transit or driving, these convenient tools will help you conquer your commute. Keep up-to-date with the latest mobility news.
