Sarcee Trail bridge reconstruction

Project update

  • Phase 2 construction began on June 2, 2018 and resulted in reduced lanes on the Sarcee Bridge over 16 Avenue N.W.
  • Throughout construction, the clearance of the Sarcee Bridge over 16 Avenue N.W. is 4.8 metres.
  • Watch for reduced speeds in the construction area.

Project timeline

  • Project start: Feb. 2018
  • Project completion: Spring 2019

The construction is planned to be completed in three phases, starting with the east side of the bridge. The first phase is expected to be completed in late May, allowing crews to move onto Phase 2 in early June. There will be reduced lanes and speeds on the bridge to facilitate the construction zone. The entire project is expected to continue until the Spring of 2019.

The project was substantially completed in the Fall of 2018. However, due to unfavorable September weather conditions, paint work on the steel girder has been postponed until the Spring of 2019. This work is expected to take a total of 28 days to complete.

Motorists are reminded to adhere the posted speed limits and watch for construction workers in the area during construction.
