Spring Clean-up street cleaning

Spring Clean-up is an annual street cleaning program that removes sanding materials and debris that has accumulated on roads and along major sidewalks and boulevards during the winter months. This road maintenance helps make our roads safer, protects the environment, and improves the appearance of city roads.

There are two ways to find out when your street is scheduled for cleaning:

1. Type your address in the search bar below and click “GO”.

2. Visit the interactive map., then select the "LOCATION" tab to enter your street address for a closer view of the sweeping status for your street. Click on the street to view scheduling information.

How you can help

The City sweeps almost 15,000 lane kilometres of paved roads, and getting the work done is a collaborative effort. We're calling on Calgarians to help us make a clean sweep of Calgary.

We rely on the co-operation of vehicle owners to observe street cleaning signs and remove their vehicles and garbage or recycling bins when a parking ban is in place.

Please note: Sweepers will not return to sweep residual material left behind due to blue/black carts or parked cars until the SCU program is complete and then only on a service request basis.

Look for the signs

A few days before street cleaning is scheduled, City crews will put out street cleaning signs in affected areas. These signs inform residents about when street cleaning will be taking place so they remove their vehicles and garbage/recycling bins. Please note, The City is unable to sign every individual street, please watch for signs at community entrances and be courteous by not parking in front of someone else’s property during cleaning.

In 2012, The City’s street cleaning signs were redesigned. The benefits of the new signs include:

• Reflective and coloured sign-front for added visibility
• QR Code for additional information
• Metal base for added durability
• Plastic frames can be filled with sand which eliminates the use of sand bags
• Lighter weight makes them easier for crews to lift and handle

When to move your vehicle

Parking bans are typically utilized in high density areas where on-street parking demand is high. If parking bans are in place, vehicles left on the roadway will be tagged and towed to a nearby cross street. If no bans are in place, vehicles, bins or other obstructions on the road will be swept around.

Move waste and recycling carts

Blue and black carts left on the street can interfere with Spring Clean-up. Place your cart on the sidewalk or grass boulevard next to the curb on the week your street is scheduled for cleaning.

We are coordinating with Waste and Recycling Services to reduce street cleaning on scheduled garbage and recycling days wherever possible.

If your cart is picked up from a back lane, put it in the same place as normal. Make sure to leave at least one metre between the cart and surrounding objects.

Downtown summer street cleaning

In the summer, downtown streets and main City roads are swept on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. Daytime sweeping does not follow a set schedule but is done as required.

On-street bicycle lanes

When weather permits, on-street bikeways are swept prior to spring clean-up. Priority is given to marked on-street bicycle lanes, which are swept first before moving on to bike lanes with no road markings. The Spring Clean-up program is in place to keep roads safe for cyclists on our bicycle-friendly streets.

Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail

Cleaning and maintenance of Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail is the responsibility of the Alberta Government and work is completed on their behalf by www.carmacksent.com
