A safety review at this intersection has shown there is a higher than expected number of collisions involving motorists turning left from Macleod Trail onto Southland Drive. In an effort to reduce the number of these types of collisions at this intersection, The City has made operational changes.
To improve safety, left turns from Macleod Trail onto Southland Drive will only be allowed when a flashing green arrow is present. Left turns on solid green will no longer be permitted.
To prevent increased delay for northbound motorists during the morning commute after the signal operation is changed, motorists will not be able to turn left from southbound Macleod Trail onto eastbound Southland Drive between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on weekdays. Motorists wishing to access Southland Drive are advised to turn left at 94 Avenue S.E. or at 99 Avenue S.E. and access Southland Drive using Bonaventure Drive.
The Macleod Trail and Southland Drive safety improvement is part of the Traffic Operational Improvements program which was developed to evaluate various intersections across Calgary for safety and operational improvements.
